Expand STEM Education in Low-income Schools in Karachi

Together with the US Consulate, the MagnifiScience Centre (MSC), as the implementing partner, has joined hands in a collaboration aimed at expanding Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education in low- and middle-income schools in Karachi. This partnership brought together the expertise and resources of both organizations to create an awe-inspiring experience for thousands of students, while igniting their passion in STEM.The project “Expand STEM Education in Low-income Schools in Karachi”, initiated in October 2022, under a US grant, was a transformative three-phase project aimed at unleashing STEM potential.

Empowering Educators:

In the first phase, we invested in the brilliant minds of around 100 teachers from 50 selected low-and middle-income schools, empowering them with an intensive 6-week STEM-training program. Led by the science program team, these teachers acquired activity-based STEM education skills to ignite curiosity and passion in their students.

Students’ Extravaganza at MSC:

In the second phase, around 1,200 students from participating schools ventured into the captivating realm of informal learning at MSC. Eager eyes and curious minds explored interactive exhibits that showcased the wonders of scientific phenomena and enjoyed a science show. Their firsthand experience of these interactive displays left an indelible impression, unlocking a world of exciting and new possibilities.

Intra School STEM Showdown:

The final phase was the unforgettable STEM competition, with equally distributed low-cost material to teachers and students, and held at the Science Centre among groups of the participating schools. The young innovators and problem solvers presented their creative and future oriented projects. The distinguished jury was faced with the difficult task of selecting the top three projects that would advance to the ultimate prize.

The Grand Prize:

A Journey Beyond the Stars! U.S. Space and Rocket Center

The winning price was an invitation to the renowned U.S. Space and Rocket Center’s Space Camp in Alabama, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness space exploration firsthand and meet other international groups of students.

Meeting the Stars: A Memorable Encounter
